We are pleased to announce the release of Synex 13 u11. This version continues the refinement of Synex Package Manager as the central software management tool and updates the COSMIC edition to its most recent version, along with the general update of the system base. As a maintenance update, the focus is on these two points rather than major additions.
Synex Package Manager 1.2.3
Synex Package Manager advances to version 1.2.3, incorporating support for APT package reinstallation directly from the details panel of the packages page.
Reinstallation is useful when an installed package presents damaged files, corrupted configurations, or when restoring the original state of its files is needed without removing and reinstalling it manually. The flow incorporates a prior verification through APT simulation before applying the operation, allowing confirmation of the scope of the change before executing it.
Reinstallation is managed independently from pending install and remove actions, and does not interfere with the purge and autoremove options: it is a scoped operation that acts only on the selected package, executed through the application's root-helper under controlled apt-get install --reinstall transactions.
This version also includes interface adjustments: better sizing of the package and Flatpak application details panels for more comfortable reading, and a consistent placement of the reinstall action in the details panel.
COSMIC edition updated to 1.3.0
The COSMIC edition advances to version 1.3.0, the most recent released by System76 for its next-generation desktop developed in Rust. This version consolidates the work of previous series and incorporates improvements across the entire set of components: the compositor, the panel and applets, the settings center, the application store, and the environment's own applications.
The edition maintains the Synex visual identity applied out of the box and shares the same base and the same set of in-house tools as the rest of the project's desktop editions.
Updated components
This version includes all cumulative package updates available in Debian Trixie repositories up to the build date. Security patches and bug fixes subsequent to version u10 are incorporated.
Core components include Linux kernel 6.12.100, systemd 257.13, Mesa 25.0.7, PipeWire 1.4.2, WirePlumber 0.5.8, OpenSSL 3.5.6, and Firefox ESR 140.13.0. The installer remains based on Calamares 3.3.14 with calamares-settings-synex 1.0.29. Synex Package Manager is included in version 1.2.3.
Availability and download
Synex 13 u11 is available for immediate download in its desktop editions: KDE Plasma, GNOME, XFCE, MATE, LXDE, Openbox, COSMIC, and IceWM. As always, we recommend verifying checksums of downloaded images before creating the installation media.
Users of previous Synex 13 versions can update their system through the standard package manager.
